KIDS Direct Short Breaks

For disabled children, young people and their families

For Parents and Carers

Boy with dadCan we help?

Taking the family on a trip out when you have a Disabled child isn't always easy, and even simple daily tasks like the weekly food shopping can become difficult. But we’re here to help!

The KIDS Direct Short Breaks Service is a flexible service designed to help you care for a Disabled child or young person aged up to 25 by providing exactly what it says: a short break, which can last from 1 hour to a full day.

While you to catch up with the shopping, or put your feet up with a cup of tea, a trained Short Break Worker will help your child to participate in exciting activities, learn new skills, or just keep them company for a walk in the park.

Our Workers can even come along on family days out to lend an extra set of hands and help to ensure your whole family has an enjoyable time.

You can use our service in whichever way suits your needs and those of your child, always with the reassurance that your child is in the care of a trained, supervised KIDS Short Break worker who has had a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check and who shares the KIDS ethos of inclusion. We expect that you will have questions you want answering about our service which is why we’ve created a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page; take a look there or contact us via our Helpline.

So, how does this work?

Our service is fully accessible at any time through our secure website, and is designed to help match the skills and experiences of our Short Break Workers to the individual needs of your child and family. You are in control of your account, and you will be able to:

  • Create your own family profile to show our workers your specific requirements
  • View our Worker profiles showing their skills, experience and interests
  • Choose the worker you want
  • Book and pay for your short break
